Week One Done!

We went back to the hospital today for Noelle's one week check up and to have the bandages removed. The vet said she is walking really well and he was happy with her progress. She is weight bearing and using the surgical leg with only occassional toe tapping which is excellent for this point in the game. We have to go back in a week to get the stitches out and then we'll have X-rays at the six week mark to see how the bone is healing. He said no walks until that six week mark (only potty breaks) so I asked for more calming drugs as keeping her calm has been the hardest part of this especially from about Day 4 on when she started to feel better. Here you can see the little monkey resting (she's been passed out since we got home as she spent a lot of energy being a drama queen at the vet). :)
I can't say any part of this experience has been easy but we are making it through. I am learning every day and trying to get too nervous or anxious when she makes a quick movement or acts like everything is normal with the leg and tries to move fast. The first five days were definitely the hardest as she came off the drugs from the surgery and couldn't quite get comfortable. I think she'll be a lot more comfortable now without the bandaging one and even more so next week when the cone comes off (I hope!). I continue to be grateful for the wonderful support in making this surgery happen and the prognosis looks very good. I'll keep doing my best to keep her healing at such a good rate. Love to all. Jess
